Entrepreneurial spirit is a hot topic and a buzzword nowadays. For Zack Karkabi, CST Senior Manager, it is a daily reality and the foundation of his career. Having transitioned from the startup world to a people management role supporting clients with the strategy behind giga-projects, Zack’s journey is a masterclass in how to build a "commercial engine" from the ground up.

The Missing Piece

In 2020, Zack made a deliberate shift. After attempting to build his own startup, he walked away with a crucial realization: vision alone isn’t enough.

"I realized that while I had the vision, I lacked the 'commercial engine'—the ability to reach out to external stakeholders, pitch with authority, and drive initiatives forward with unwavering confidence," he explains. He didn’t just join Dialectica for a job; he joined for a masterclass in commercial strategy.

The Associate Years

For Zack, the early Associate days were defined by the high-stakes world of cold-calling industry leaders to pitch complex projects.

The learning curve was steep, but the challenges became his best teachers. Through the "hustle," he mastered two critical skills:

  • Building Instant Rapport: Establishing trust with C-suite executives.
  • Deconstructing Value Chains: Identifying business patterns across completely different industries.

The Shift to People Management

A little over a year in, Zack stepped into his first people management role. After successfully leading cross-functional teams through complex benchmarking exercises in the energy sector, he faced his most rewarding challenge yet: People Management.

Leading a team of five in the high-stakes Middle East market taught him that high performance isn't an individual sport. It’s about coaching, scaling commercial processes, and mastering project and account management in regions where the complexity is as high as the rewards.

From Strategy to Execution

Today, Zack’s day-to-day as a Senior Manager focuses on the "macro." He oversees a vast portfolio of clients and mentors the next generation of managers. His responsibilities now span:

  • Strategic Growth: Using real-time market data and macroeconomic factors to drive account strategies.
  • Operational Excellence: Optimizing P&L and spearheading large-scale business development.
  • Culture Building: Ensuring high performance is the standard, and excellence is celebrated.

From national strategy reforms to multi-million dollar acquisitions, at Dialectica, Zack has seen the entire business lifecycle. "I’ve had a front-row seat to the entire business lifecycle. I’ve experienced how a high-level strategy moves into execution and finally hits the bottom line." he reflects.

The Greatest Satisfaction

Looking back on his six-year progression, Zack finds the most joy not in his own accomplishments, but in the success of those he has mentored.

"It’s a journey that transformed me from a startup dreamer into a commercial leader," Zack says. "And yet, there is still so much more to learn as Dialectica continues its growth journey. We’re just getting started!"
