Rising Strong: Valentina Betancur on Growth, Grit, and Becoming a Manager

Today, we shine a spotlight on Valentina Betancur, one of Bogotá’s newest Managers, whose journey radiates the resilience, curiosity, and teamwork that make our office unique. Her story shows the magic that unfolds when talent meets opportunity and when someone chooses to show up every day with purpose and passion. Time and again, Valentina has risen to the occasion, overcome obstacles, and embraced the mindset shifts that transform potential into true leadership.
In this Q&A, she shares the experiences that shaped her, the lessons she’s learned, and the energy she hopes to bring into this new chapter.
What achievement are you most proud of in your journey to becoming a Manager?
What fills me with the most pride is how I’ve seized every growth opportunity that came my way. Dialectica offers a real chance to step up, and I’ve embraced that by always going the extra mile. Achieving this milestone feels like a rewarding culmination of all the dedication and effort I’ve poured in.
Can you share a time when you went above and beyond to deliver results?
Transitioning was a period of intense 'double-duty.' I was taking on Manager-level responsibilities, like coaching and team strategy, while simultaneously maintaining my own performance targets and expert research as an Associate. Navigating that shift, ensuring my team felt supported while still delivering on the ground, was challenging, but it built the leadership confidence I have today.
What does ‘excellence’ mean to you?
To me, excellence is not about chasing perfection, but about always delivering that extra 10%. It means noticing the small details, staying proactive, and taking pride in your work, even when no one else is looking.
What skill or mindset shift helped you grow the most in the last 12 months?
I once believed I had to have every answer right away. But I’ve come to realize that teamwork is what truly matters. Relying on my peers and witnessing how much more we accomplish together has been eye-opening. It’s our shared effort that propels us forward.

Can you recall a moment when you struggled? What did you learn?
Struggling with client feedback is never easy, but those moments were my best teachers. I learned that preventing misalignment is just as important as the research itself. I shifted my focus to client education and proactive coaching within my team, helping associates develop a 'sixth sense' for red flags. This shift from reactive problem-solving to proactive expectation-setting has been a game-changer for how I lead.
Who or what played a key role in your development?
The managers and associates in my unit have been absolutely vital to my growth. Their daily support and shared wisdom have shaped my journey. I’m especially thankful to my Senior Manager and Vice President for believing in me and trusting me with greater responsibility.
How do you contribute to a strong, collaborative team culture?
I truly believe that positive energy spreads quickly. I make it a point to bring that spirit to work each day, knowing it shapes our team’s mood and productivity. I also strive to be the person who is always ready to lend a hand.
What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve received?
The most valuable advice I’ve received is to let go of what I cannot control. Channeling my energy into doing my best and focusing on what I can influence has made all the difference.
Stepping into the Manager role at Dialectica is more than just a new title; it marks the beginning of a chapter focused on empowering others. Valentina’s journey, fueled by purpose, resilience, and tons of energy, is exactly what will propel our teams as we strive to become the top player in the global insights market. Congratulations, Valentina, on reaching this well-earned milestone!
